Classic Date Nut Bread

 
 
Ingredients:

1 egg

1 cup packed brown sugar

2 tablespoons shortening, melted

2 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup buttermilk

1/2 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped (optional)

1/2 cup raisins or craisins, (optional)
Directions:

Per heat your oven to 350, then greese a 9" x 5" loaf pan with butter.

In a bowl, beat egg, then gradually beat in brown sugar and shortening.

Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt, then add to egg mixture alternately with buttermilk.

Beat just until moistened, then stir in optional nuts and rasins.

Pour into the greased loaf pan.

Bake at 350 for 45 to 55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pan and put onto a wire rack to cool.

Note: Cool bread compleatly to insure good and even slicing. Enjoy!
