Ingredients:
3 cups flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 1/4 cups buttermilk
3 cups flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 1/4 cups buttermilk
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400.
Put dry ingredients in a bowl and mix.
Break up any lumps of brown sugar.
Pour buttermilk into the bowl and stir, using a wooden spoon, just until a soft dough is formed.
Do not over mix or try to smooth at this point.
Pour the contents of the bowl out onto a counter and knead for a minute until everything comes together.
Divide the dough into two portions and shape each into a loaf, pressing the top down a bit to just barely flatten it.
Place the dough loaves on a large ungreased baking sheet.
Use spray oil or parchment paper if you like.
Sprinkle some additional white flour on top of each loaf and, using a sharp paring knife, cut a slash on top of each loaf.
Allow loaves to rest for 10 minutes. Bake on the middle rack of oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until lightly browned and crunchy.
Cool on racks completly before slicing.
